Participation of youth in local development processes by awarding grants to projects initiated and managed by youth.

About the project

The Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation launched the Divac Youth Funds Project on June 1, 2013, with the aim to contribute to the participation of youth in local development processes by awarding grants to projects initiated and managed by youth.

The Foundation and each Divac Youth Fund invests up to 5,000 US dollars for the implementation of youth initiatives in their local community, with the partner municipality and local businesses donating the same amount for the same purpose. Divac Youth Funds are managed by boards comprised of ten young people chosen in a public competition and trained to manage small grants. The project is being implemented in 11 municipalities and one city in Serbia: Prijepolje, Vršac, Vladičin Han, Vlasotince, Kanjiža, Aranđelovac, Blace, Lazarevac and Obrenovac, Knjaževac and Užice.

In 2014, the US Agency for International Development (USAID), through its project “Civil Society Forward”, managed by the Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) and the Balkan Trust for Democracy (BTD), took part in the project.  In 2015, the project was supported by the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

Output

To-date, the project has supported 382 youth initiatives and projects which have contributed to an increase in the quality of life of youth in their local communities.
