About the Project:
Given that one of the strategic goals of the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation is to secure conditions for the upbringing and education of children and that a large number of schools in Serbia lack adequate conditions for holding classes and the education of pupils, the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation initiated the “One in a Million” Project in 2013.
The purpose of the project is to raise funds which will be invested in the improvement of conditions for the education of children through the procurement of equipment and the reconstruction of elementary schools, so as to enable every child an equal chance to access education and learning. Many schools in Serbia lack even basic conditions, such as old and ruined restrooms, old furniture, damaged facades, walls and floors and a lack of sports equipment, basic teaching aids and computers.
The basic idea behind the project is to gather a million people to donate 1 Euro a month (12 Euros a year) and to do so year on year. In this way, each individual can take part in creating change and becoming one in a million who will contribute to addressing one of the most important problems in our society; improving conditions for the education and schooling of children.
From 2013 to 2016, with the support of many thousands individuals and more then a hundred companies, the Foundation raised 218,564 dollars and renewed and equipped 25 elementary schools throughout Serbia, and more than 5,000 children were provided with better conditions for education and learning. It is of particular importance to note that the renewed and improved schools remain for future generations. Unfortunately, there are a large number of schools in need of renewal and new equipment and the Foundation continues, with the support of its donors, with the renewal and equipping of elementary schools.
